GOLDEN SHARKS

THE GREAT WHITE, THE WHALE AND A HAMMERHEAD

An art project to help shark conservation efforts.

Sharks are the cats of the oceans: although they are the most formidable predators in their habitat, they are not mindless eating machines. In fact, they choose their food very carefully. As a result, they have been present in the oceans for 400 million years. The diet of sharks is always made up of the weakest links, the easiest prey. This keeps the populations of marine creatures young and strong, and saves the sharks from unnecessary clashes. When humans fall prey to sharks, it is usually the result of a misunderstanding. Sharks regret the first bite of red meat, as it is of an unusual taste, so they usually leave the prey injured. Unfortunately, due to the bite's size it is mostly fatal. There are an average of 6 fatal shark attacks worldwide each year. If our behavior in water was not confusing, and we reacted consciously without panic in their presence, accidents could be avoided.

In contrast, humans kill and consume more than a hundred million sharks a year completely unnecessarily. When sharks become extinct, marine ecosystems will collapse. It’s time to put sharks into perspective and change our mindset before we regret not caring for them sooner.
