INDONESIAN MIMIC OCTOPUS

Thaumoctopus mimicus

Striped aquatic creatures are usually venomous; a straightforward warning for predators not to approach! First sighted just recently in 1992, this not at all poisonous octopus uses wit over poison - it has learned to imitate the colours, shapes and the behaviour of a diverse range of deadly aquatic animals. Evaluating its given environment, depth in water and possible predators, it will choose the most apt act as defence. A magical act, literally.
