COCKATOOS

Cacatuidae

A family of 21 different species, cockatoos are a family of birds that are often mistaken for large parrots. They are only found in Australia, on south-eastern islands of Asia, and on the corner of Oceania. The colour of plumage ranges from black, grey to completely white - like the Umbrella Cockatoo; with patches of red, pink or yellow (like the Yellow-crested Cockatoo). Species living in Australia are thriving, where they have adapted to urban living and feeding. The species in Asia, that have a more specialised diet and face natural habitat destruction, they are slowly dissapearing. They are intelligent, beautiful and very social, playful animals, and also often happy to interact with humans. Now, the type of that interraction depends on us, which could mean a life to them.
