WHALE SHAKA

A seaside greeting

A popular wave among surfers, the shaka is a quick, back-and-forth rotation of the outstretched thumb and pinky. Usually accompanied by a hearty smile. The lobtailing and then slapping the water (high-five?) behaviour of whales is also used for greeting, communication and signaling to one and other. Yet unknown if whales smile at all, but upon seeing them us humans sure do!
